Hibernation

Hibernation occurs when animals go into a deep sleep in their caves or dens for several days during cold winter months. This is because during cold winter days not much food is available for animals.

In order to prepare their bodies for hibernation, animals eat lots of food before hibernation. During hibernation, the body temperature of the animals drops down, and their heart rate and breathing slow down.

Animals can remain in hibernation for several months. Bears, hedgehog, and frogs are some of the animals that hibernate.
